Information regarding epidemiological situation – updated March 11, 2020
Dear Students,
According to the decision of the Polish Government all academic classes at PUMS scheduled March 12 - 25, 2020 are canceled. This entails that also all examinations and public defenses of PhD thesis are canceled, Library with the study room is closed as well as Physical Education and Sports Centre.
Please be informed that despite the fact that classes are canceled, this time should be devoted to students' self-study with the aid of online methods of learning. Academic teachers are asked to include the necessary study materials in the AKSON system.
We recommend students to contact the Dean's Office by e-mail or by phone.
All conferences and workshops scheduled at PUMS facilities, including Library-Congress Center, are canceled until March 25, 2020.
We have also ceased the accommodation of new students at Dorms. Moreover, it is forbidden to invite visitors. Breaking these regulations will result in consequences specified in School Regulations and binding general law.
We ask students to limit social activity, refrain from travels and avoid public gatherings.
Other activities of the University - especially scientific research, commission sessions, administrative work are not canceled. A detailed schedule of PUMS activity until March 25, 2020 is to be specified in the Regulation of the Rector.
At the same time, we ask to be reasonable and not to be driven by social panic. We ask to obey the guidelines and recommendations included also in previous announcements:
- Coronavirus is carried by droplet and at the moment there is no vaccine against the virus. It is possible, however, to limit the threat of infection in the same way as in the case of other diseases carried by droplet:
- washing hands frequently according to WHO guidelines
- covering the mouth and nose while sneezing with the bent elbow or a tissue,
- refraining from touching the eyes, nose, and mouth,
- keeping a safe distance (at least one meter) from the people who have pulmonary symptoms (cough, runny nose).
- avoiding greetings rituals (kissing, hugging, shaking hands)
- Coronavirus is especially dangerous for the elderly and people with reduced immunity.
- Students and administration employees who have come back from Italy, China, South Korea, Iran, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Taiwan within the last 14 days are asked to limit their social activity and stay at home for the next two weeks.
Each time, these people must contact District Sanitary-Epidemiological Station in Poznań over the phone (tel. 61 646 78 60, 61 646 78 63) to carry out an epidemiological interview.
In the event of a return from other countries and doubts about further proceedings, please consult this with the District Sanitary-Epidemiological Station in Poznań.
- People who have recently been to the regions infected with the virus or have had direct contact with such people or suspect such contact and at the same time have a high fever, cough, dyspnea or breathing problems are asked to contact Infectious Diseases Ward at the Józef Struś Municipal Hospital in Poznań (2 Żelazna St.) or District Sanitary-Epidemiological Station (tel. 61 646 78 60, 61 646 78 63).
We ask not to go to the doctor on one’s own in such a situation, but absolutely ask for special sanitary transport.
- We cancel business trips of employees and students of our University to the regions with a high number of reported cases of coronavirus: Italy, China, South Korea, Iran, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and Taiwan.
We ask to cancel such travels at least until the end of April 2020. Business trips to those countries will not be funded by the University.
- Since March 3, 2020 we have canceled arrivals to Poland of students, PhD students and academic teachers from the above-mentioned regions within academic cooperation.
- We recommend reasonable limitation of academic exchange and business trips to other countries, according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Since and Higher Education.
- We recommend following the guidelines of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control related to the prevention against COVID-19 infection as well as the guidelines of Chief Sanitary Inspector and Ministry of Since and Higher Education.
- We kindly ask to carefully follow updated information and recommendations from the Chief Sanitary Inspector and take only steps recommended accordingly.
