Dr. Szukalska Awarded Scholarship from Kosciuszko Foundation
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Marta Szukalska, MSc., Phd, from PUMS Environmental Research Laboratory of the Department of Toxicology was awarded a Kosciuszko Foundation Scholarship to carry out a research project at Rutgers - The State University of New Jersey.
During her three-month stay in the United States, Dr. Szukalska will conduct research on the role of macrophages and inflammatory mechanisms of lung tissue damage following exposure to electronic cigarettes using an ex vivo model of precision cut lung slices (PCLS). The research will be conducted in the laboratory of Prof. Debra L. Laskin, Ph.D, head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy.
The Kosciuszko Foundation promotes Polish-American cooperation through international exchanges in the fields of education, science and culture. Each year, the Foundation awards travel and residency scholarships and grants to Poles for study, research and/or teaching at universities or other institutions pursuing higher education in the United States.
